Getting started

Your first visit

The first time you open AfriMarket, a bar at the bottom asks about cookies. Necessary cookies (sign-in, your cart) are always on; you decide about analytics, personalised recommendations and marketing. Choose Accept all, Reject all or Customise. Change your mind any time from Cookie settings in the footer.

Home page, first visit. The cookie bar at the bottom; the yellow bar at the top is the delivery notice.(tap to enlarge)
Deliveries are within Nigeria only for now. International shipping is temporarily paused. The notice can be closed and comes back on your next visit.

Creating an account

Click Sign in at the top right, then Create an account.

  • Sign up with Google — one tap, nothing to remember.
  • With email — first name, last name, email and a password of at least 8 characters. We email a 6-digit code; type it in and you're signed in.
  • Referral code — if a friend gave you one, enter it to receive a welcome credit once your account is set up.
  • Tick Send me new arrivals and deals to join the newsletter (a few emails a month, one-click unsubscribe).
Create an account. Google on top, or the email form beneath.(tap to enlarge)

Signing in

Use Google or your email and password. Forgot it? Enter your email, tap Forgot password?, and we email a code to set a new one. If you open a page that needs an account while signed out — checkout, your orders, a dashboard — you're taken to sign in and brought straight back afterwards.

Your account menu

Once signed in, your avatar sits at the top right. It opens the account menu: My account, Orders, Saved items, Refer & earn, Addresses; the Seller dashboard (or Sell on AfriMarket if you don't have a store yet); the Staff or Admin workspace if you have that role; Account settings and Sign out.

On a phone: On a phone the top bar keeps only the ☰ menu, the search box, your cart and your avatar. Everything else is behind ☰.

Finding products

Browse lists every live product. The panel on the left filters by category (open one to see its subcategories) and price — one-tap bands or your own min–max. Applied filters show as chips above the results; tap a chip's × to remove it, or Clear all.

The search box understands meaning, not just exact words — “handmade bag” also finds baskets and totes. Results come sorted by best match; the dropdown on the right changes the sort.

On a phone: On a phone, tap Filters (next to the product count) to open the panel. The number on the button is how many filters are on.
Browse. Fashion is selected; the chip above the grid shows it and removes it.(tap to enlarge)

The product page

  • Variants (a colour, a print) are chips under the title — each has its own photos and prices.
  • Pick a size, set a quantity, then Add to cart or Buy now (straight to checkout). A sold-out size is greyed out.
  • The heart saves the item; Message the seller starts a chat about this product.
  • Below: delivery window, returns, description, specifications, reviews from verified buyers, and Similar items.
On a phone: On a phone the photos come first, then the price, variants and sizes; the Add to cart / Buy now bar stays pinned to the bottom of the screen while you scroll.

Cart and checkout

The cart (icon at the top right) lets you change quantities or remove lines. Prices are re-checked when you place the order. Checkout in four steps:

  1. Deliver to — pick a saved address or Add address. Delivery is within Nigeria only for now.
  2. Items — grouped by store; each store's parcel shows its courier fee and delivery window (quoted from the seller's state, your state and the parcel weight).
  3. Summary — subtotal, VAT (7.5%), ICT levy (0.5%), shipping, and any store credit or discount code you apply.
  4. Place order & pay — pay with Flutterwave (card, bank transfer, USSD). Your order is confirmed the moment the payment succeeds.

Adding an address

Type your street and suggestions appear as you go — pick one and the town, state and postcode fill in for you. The phone number is passed to the courier. Tick Use as my default address to have it picked automatically at checkout.

Add delivery address. Suggestions under the street field.(tap to enlarge)

Your account and orders

My account shows orders on the way, anything awaiting payment, your store-credit balance and recent orders. Orders lists every order with its status; open one for the tracker of each store's parcel — Paid → Processing → Shipped → Delivered — with courier tracking once booked. Unpaid orders offer Pay with Flutterwave and Cancel order; delivered ones offer Buy again, Write a review and Report a problem.

Problems with an order

Within 14 days of delivery, open the order and tap Report a problem. Choose what went wrong (not received, damaged, not as described, wrong item, other), describe it and add photos. The seller has 2 business days to reply and you can talk it through on the dispute page. If it isn't resolved, AfriMarket decides on the evidence. Refunds are paid as store credit, added immediately and applied to your next order; you can appeal a decision within 7 days.

Messages, wishlist and referrals

  • Messages — your conversations with sellers, one per product; you're emailed when a seller replies.
  • Saved items — everything you hearted, ready to add to the cart.
  • Refer & earn — share your code or link; friends get a welcome credit and you earn credit when they order.

Bunmi, the assistant

Tap Ask Bunmi on any page — the store, and every dashboard. She answers from the help centre, this guide, and — when you're signed in — what applies to you: shoppers get their own orders and disputes (“Where is my order?”, “What happened with my refund?”); sellers also get their store's orders to ship, stock and payouts (“What do I need to do today?”); staff and admins get the operations queue (“What's waiting for me?”). She speaks English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo and Yorùbá — write in yours and she answers in it, or choose one with the globe in her panel. In Hausa she is Amina and in Igbo Adaeze: same assistant, a name that fits the language. She can't change orders or approve anything; for anything she can't settle, Talk to a person reaches support.

Selling on AfriMarket

  • You set your price. Buyers see your price + 30% AfriMarket commission (VAT, levy and delivery are added at checkout).
  • Once an order is delivered, your price × quantity becomes payable; payouts go to your bank account.
  • Delivery is by courier (Fez) from your pickup address — the state matters, because fees are quoted from it.

Applying for a store

Go to Sell in the top bar → Apply. Three short steps: your store (name, handle, what you sell, optional logo), contact and pickup address, review and submit. You can add products straight away; they go live once AfriMarket activates the store, usually within one business day. If something needs changing, you get an email listing exactly what.

Sell. What you earn, how delivery works, the Apply button.(tap to enlarge)

The seller dashboard

Open it from the account menu (Seller dashboard) or the Sell link. The sidebar has Overview, Products, Orders, Messages, Disputes, Payouts and Settings; badges show what needs you — orders to ship, unread messages, products in review, low stock. Sign out and Back to shopping sit at the bottom.

On a phone: On a phone the sidebar is behind the ☰ button at the top left of the dashboard; the store name and a Store → link sit beside it.

Adding a product

Products lists everything with options, stock, your price and status — Draft, In review, Live or Archived. Click Add product and fill in:

  1. Basics — name, category and subcategory (where buyers find it), optional brand, and a description: material, size guide, what's in the box, care.
  2. Photos, price & stock — for each option (a colour, a print, a flavour): up to 8 photos (the first is the cover; on a phone, Take a photo opens the camera and Add photos picks from your gallery); packed weight in kg (sets the delivery fee); optional discount % and sale end; and one row per size or pack with your price and stock. Add another option for a second colour or print.
  3. Specifications — optional short facts buyers compare on (Material · 100% cotton).

The What buyers will see box updates as you type: the buyer price (your price + 30%) and what you receive after any discount. Editing a live product: price and stock changes go live immediately. A size with 0 stock is unavailable to buyers; 2 or fewer shows under Low stock.

On a phone: On a phone, Take a photo opens the camera straight away and Add photos picks from your gallery. The price preview appears under the sizes, and Save draft / Submit for review stay pinned to the bottom of the screen.

Add product. Basics on the left; live price preview and the two buttons on the right.(tap to enlarge)
Photos, price & stock. Photo tiles, weight, discount, then one row per size; Add size and Add another option underneath.(tap to enlarge)
Save draft keeps your progress — a name and a category are enough — and you can finish it any time from Products. What you type is also kept in your browser, so if the tab closes you're offered Restore when you come back. Submit for review runs the full checks and sends it to AfriMarket; you're emailed either way, usually within one business day.

Orders

Orders shows what's paid and waiting on you, oldest first, with your revenue per order. Move each order along as you go — Start processing when you're packing, Mark shipped when it's with the courier. Buyers see every step. Courier bookings and tracking are handled by AfriMarket; status updates from Fez appear automatically.

Orders. To ship at the top with the action buttons.(tap to enlarge)

Payouts

Your balance in four parts: payable now (delivered, not yet paid out), awaiting delivery, being paid and paid out. Add your bank account in Settings — the account name is verified with the bank — and payouts arrive by bank transfer after delivery. Orders under an open dispute are held until it's settled.

Payouts. Balances and payout history.(tap to enlarge)

Settings

Store profile (name, description, logo, cover), pickup address (with suggestions as you type), delivery window and returns policy, and your bank account for payouts.

Settings. Profile, pickup, delivery and bank account.(tap to enlarge)

Messages and disputes

Buyers can message you about a product; reply from Messages (you're emailed for new ones). Draft with AI writes a warm reply grounded in your product details for you to edit and send. Disputes lists problems buyers have reported on your orders — reply within 2 business days; AfriMarket decides if it isn't resolved.

Using AfriMarket on your phone

Most people use AfriMarket on a phone, so every screenshot in this guide has a phone version — the Phone / Computer switch at the top picks which you see. A few things are simply in different places on a small screen:

Where things are on a phone

  • ☰ at the top left opens the store menu (Browse, Help, Guide, Sell). In a dashboard the same button opens the sidebar with its badges and Sign out.
  • Search is the box right under the top bar; categories scroll sideways beneath it.
  • On Browse, Filters opens the category and price panel as a sheet; Show N products closes it.
  • On a product page the Add to cart / Buy now bar stays at the bottom while you scroll; on the add-product form, Save draft / Submit do the same.
  • Take a photo opens the camera for product photos; Add photos picks from the gallery.
  • Long tables (orders, products) scroll sideways — drag them left to see the rest.
  • Ask Bunmi is the round button at the bottom right; her panel slides up over the page.
